There's some big hitting competition on Gertrude St when it comes to cafes. Arcadia holds its own. The vibe is friendly and relaxed without being hokey. The food is plentiful and fresh without being stock-standard. The staff and regulars are friendly and welcoming without the queuing.
This place is more known of course as a bar and dinner joint but we stumbled into GSE one morning to find really good coffee and delicious baked goodies on the bench ready to be devoured.
Microbrewery beers, seasonal wine selections, a fireplace in winter, old fashioned vintage cocktails, kitsch comforting food, soulful music. Would you be anywhere else?
